The Old Stone Schoolhouse
Honoring the past, enriching the present, inspiring the future.
The Fallsvale Old Stone Schoolhouse opened in September 1932 after construction began in the fall of 1931. For generations it served families in the mountain communities as a place of learning, gathering, and shared responsibility during some of the most challenging years in our nation’s history.
Though the building no longer functions as a classroom, it remains one of Forest Falls’ most meaningful historic landmarks. Preserving the schoolhouse is not simply about nostalgia. It is about honoring the people who built it, the children who learned within its walls, and the role it continues to play in the story of this community.
Fallsvale Historic Schoolhouse Inc was formed to provide the dedicated nonprofit stewardship and organizational structure needed to preserve and restore the building for future generations. Through careful documentation, collaboration, and community engagement, we are working to protect the schoolhouse and ensure it continues to support the educational and historical life of the Fallsvale campus as it approaches its centennial in 2032.
As the schoolhouse approaches its centennial in 2032, the community now has an opportunity to ensure that this historic landmark is preserved for the next hundred years.
Our Story
The effort to preserve the Fallsvale Old Stone Schoolhouse reflects years of community care and involvement. Over time, community members gathered historical documentation, explored preservation options, and worked to identify a responsible path forward for protecting the building.
One important realization emerged from those efforts: restoring the schoolhouse would require a dedicated nonprofit organization focused specifically on its preservation.
Fallsvale Historic Schoolhouse Inc was created to provide that structure, allowing the work already begun by the community to move forward in an organized and sustainable way.
